Dr. Helen Battle was a Western alumna who graduated with a BA in Honors Zoology in 1923 and completed her MA in 1924. She earned her PhD in Zoology from the University of Toronto in 1928 and was the first woman in Canada to earn a PhD in marine biology. In honour of Dr. Helen Battle, BUGS hosts Helen Battle Lectures annually, one each semester. We have profs coming from Western as well as from all over the world to discuss their research, interests and life experiences. It’s an experience you definitely don’t want to miss!
Last year, we featured Dr. Danielle Way on the role of chance in building a career in biology and Order of Canada recipient Dr. Jeremy McNeil on his experiences in science outreach and the wonders of the insect world.
